A glorious 1972 Jaguar e-Type Series 3 V12 Roadster that was once owned by Liverpool and England soccer legend Kevin Keegan OBE, has been restored by Jaguar’s E-Type UK specialist. Finished in a period with a factory-correct Jaguar Willow Green exterior and matching waffle leather interior and bonnet, the car retained the same charm as when it came off the production line in 1972.
The current owner of the vehicle approached E-Type UK to restore the vehicle to its former glory after suffering an unfortunate accident, which left the 1970s classic struck and bruised. This once-loved E-Type arrived at E-Type UK facilities in Kent for body accident repair and a complete respray in its original color.
E-Type UK’s dedicated team of restoration technicians were dedicated to restoring the body damage sustained in the accident. Upon inspection, it was discovered that most of the damage was superficial and that the chassis remained intact, much to the delight of the owner. All exterior metalwork was stripped, removing all chrome and shiny woodwork.
Once the car was completely dismantled, the entire body repair became apparent, as the Roadster had been subject to previous accident repairs throughout its life. The shop team removed the poorly repaired windowsill and top trim, fitting new ones, before remodeling the vehicle’s hood to its iconic curve.
After the Series 3 metalwork was repaired, restoring the glorious lines and synonymous curves of the E-Type, the car was filled and prepared ready for replay. By restoring the seamless lines of the 1970s, all panels were cleaned, hardened, and sanded en bloc in preparation for the subsequent respray.
The owner’s priority with this project was to finish the car in its factory color, Willow Green, maintaining its authenticity at all times. To achieve this, the car underwent a long thorough preparation process to ensure that the end result was bright and smooth.
Once the vehicle’s exterior was completed, the interior leather was trimmed into biscuits with a matching mohair hood, complementing the exterior paint job to restore the vehicle to its celebrity status.
Once the car returned from spraying and trimming, the team embarked on the final steps of the restoration. In accordance with the owner’s wishes, the finishing touches were made to the shiny chrome exterior work before installing a number of minor improvements, such as adding a vintage-style license plate, side mirrors, and factory standard steel wheels. In addition, a stainless steel sport exhaust and a 14 “Motor-Lita steering wheel enhance the driving experience of the V12 sports car.
E-Type UK founder Marcus Holland said: “We are particularly proud of this restoration and delighted with the way it looks after spending time in our workshop. The owner was particularly upset after the car was involved in an accident and wanted us to restore it to its former glory.
With its celebrity past due to Kevin Keegan’s former ownership, we worked hard to return it to the factory standard, with a glorious Willow Green finish. “Not only are we delighted to have delivered our customer with their car in perfect condition, but we are honored to have played a role in the ongoing history of this iconic British sports car.”
