Though it may get you a good amount of dollars when you are a relatively broke college kid, sperm donation is not as easy as it sounds. Sure, all you have to do is do the usual but this time, actually help someone get the child they’ve wanted to get but couldn’t.
But it’s a long process that some may or may not be worth it in the end. There are various criteria one has to meet. For example, if you live in Japan, you would probably want to be healthy, intelligent, and as-typical-as-possible. And, of course, you’ll have to be Japanese. People in the market for these sperms have a certain mentality; they want the best possible child they can get. That essentially means don’t stand out negatively. Of course, it helps to stand out positively; be a sportsman or be at the top of your class. On top of all that, if you are younger than 18 or older than 35, you stand virtually no chance of qualifying.
You must be prepared to talk to strangers about yourself and your family. The sperm bank will want to know every illness that has ever stricken you from the day you were born to the day you are currently giving this information to them (and they will want to know the chances of you getting any other diseases in the future). That means if someone in your family has a hereditary condition, even if you don’t have it, there are chances you may not be considered a worthy donor.
Donating sperm is a job, so you will be subjected to an interview, where average job interview questions will be fielded. And, like in any other job interview, your answers must be intelligent and professional. The most crucial question is perhaps, “Why do you want to do this?” and you better have a good answer to it.
If you pass your interview, you will donate some sperm for them to test and see how good it is. This donation will earn you no money. Think of it as showcasing your portfolio. If they like your samples after the tests, you get paid somewhere between $35 and $50, depending on the bank you go to.
However, since they need a vast amount of sperm from you, they reserve their money until you have satisfied their amounts and the amount of time they need. So that means going back and donating, again and again, hoping they like it every time.
A big problem is the sperm count. During sex, you produce a lot of sperm. However, during masturbation, that number is nearly halved. So you will have to be very skilled, lucky, or fertile. The would-be parents need much of their sperm because fertilization outside sex is complicated.
That being said, you will need to donate your sperm twice at first if they like your sperm. If they want your swimmers after these two donations, they will offer you a contract, and you can now be a paid donor.
As you have read above, it is not that easy to become a sperm donor. And if you do become a sperm donor, you could make about $40 (depending on where you go), and you could eventually get that motorbike. However, it is not impossible.
