This year Silverstone Classic, originally scheduled for the weekend of July 31-Aug 2, has unfortunately been canceled. This summer, the classic pioneer had massive plans to celebrate his thirtieth birthday with a special “big hits” race card, but organizers have indicated they will bring these celebrations to the 2021 event.
As the world’s largest classic motorsport festival, the massive event always attracts unrivaled networks, many thousands of classic car owners, and more than 100,000 visitors, many of whom camp at Silverstone. The nature and scale of the event make carrying it out in a safe and socially distant manner a great challenge in the current situation; And the spirit of the event’s much-loved family festival also means that hosting the event behind closed doors is not a viable option.
“Following the latest advice from the government, we have come to the inevitable conclusion that we will have to cancel this year’s event,” said Nick Wigley, CEO of classic organizer Goose Live Events, greatly disappointed. Given the current circumstances and the unclear perspective of time scales, hosting a postponed event, which was our original backup plan, is not something we can plan with any degree of certainty if we want to offer the classic style we have. they know and love. “
“I can’t tell you how sad this news makes me feel. For the past 12 years, my life’s focus has been to turn El Clásico into the most amazing, biggest, classic family racing festival, and many people think the best, of the world, but our priority at all times is the safety and well-being of our event attendees, as well as our own team, and we know fans of Classic will understand why this step has been necessary. “
“As an independent event company passionate about what we do, we are very proud to have developed the Silverstone Classic into an internationally renowned historical motorsport festival, enjoyed by generations of car enthusiasts, families, race drivers and petrolheads.”
“In times of trouble, communities tend to come together and we are incredibly grateful for the continued support of everyone. It means a lot. The passion of those who come through our doors is what makes the event such a successful one. It has turned and now we are already looking forward to celebrating our late 30th anniversary with everyone next year. ”
Record numbers who have already purchased Super Early Bird and Early Bird tickets will be offered the option to transfer their tickets to the 2021 event or request a full refund. All ticket holders will be contacted in June with details of the next steps. As always, all the latest information can be found at www.silverstoneclassic.com.
